“Let’s make Cambridge one city, a city that works for all of us, and prioritizes people before profits.”
Vote Nicola Williams #1 for city council | November 5th
“We need strong environmental policies to protect our tree canopy and meet our climate action goals.”
“We need thoughtful growth policies that put community first and reduce our interdependence on development.”
What Concerns Me
I remember a Cambridge made up of economically diverse neighborhoods; a place where seniors, families with young children, and college graduates could all live in the same building, small businesses could afford a store front, and residents had accessible grocery options. I remember a Cambridge whose streets were lively with artists, culture and vitality. That is the Cambridge that I know and love.
So, what is happening now? Our middle income neighbors are disappearing faster than any other group in this city. The working poor in Cambridge have less and less disposable income with the rising cost of living. We live in a city where our teachers and our Police officers can no longer afford to live in the neighborhoods they grew up in. Outrageous increases in commercial rent have created empty storefronts. Our tree canopy has drastically decreased and is at risk. Our 150 year old water pipes are falling apart, and the electric power sourcing in some parts of the City is maxing out at 98%. On top of all of this, our City has embraced an aggressive growth plan of 25-30% by 2030, all while our residents are facing increasing displacement.
Hope for a Cambridge Future We Can Believe In
We are a thoughtful city, full of people who care about the environment, care about families, care about education, and care about entrepreneurial pursuits. We are supportive small business owners and collaborative citizens with a passion for cultural diversity and the arts. That is what I love about my city. We have lost some of the things that makes Cambridge so special. We need policies that support stable communities for a thriving, livable Cambridge for generations to come. Join me in reclaiming power for the people. Vote #1 for Nicola Williams for Cambridge City Council, November 5, 2019.
